Welcome to Somalia and Somaliland!

Most Westerners would prefer to be incarcerated at home rather than visit Somaliland and Somalia, for good reason, the news of the remarkable recent improvement in safety is simply not spoken about.

Country Profile

Omar Duale, Director WWMAF Somalia

Some recent history: Britain and Italy sliced up Somalia after the first world war, Somaliland, the most northerly province for the British King and the rest for the Italians. Neither colonial power found much to interest them in either territory, the arid countryside being dominated by tribal rulers with an economy based on rearing goats and camels. During the past 20 years, the northern province decided to create what is now a working government with all the trappings of a functioning state with its own money, parliament and legislature, various ministries and the drive to make them all work. That province is now Somaliland but is not recognized by any country albeit a model for the rest of Somalia. The other states to the south are “Somalia” that became “failed states” that were ungovernable by any of the tribal factions. Wreaked by war and starvation, Somalia was in stasis. While Somaliland was relatively safe, Mogadishu and Kismayo to the south were territories for the militias to fight over.

Worldwide Movers Africa (Somaliland), under the guidance of Omar Duale, started the first international relocation company in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland in 2010. Not easy in a country where there are no banks, post office services, the company offered the first moving services and remains without competitors, it being only for the intrepid. Nevertheless, Worldwide Movers Africa (Somaliland) offers full origin and destination services, are equipped like all other WWM operations in Africa and are trusted with the highest calibre transfers.

Areas of Operation
2012 saw Worldwide Movers Africa open in Somalia itself with a small operation in Mogadishu. It is difficult to believe that the population can promenade in the streets of the capital nowadays and that shops, cafes and restaurants are blossoming where recently there was only rubble. Expatriate Somali money is being repatriated and we expect there to be increasing investment in the capital as well as the south where AU troops are clearing out Al Shabab.

Worldwide Movers Africa (Somalia) is owned by Ethiopian, Canadian and US stakeholders, ensuring continuity of service quality: the company is well known to all major international relocation companies and enjoys an unparalleled local reputation for care and prudence. Worldwide Movers Africa (Somalia) is a member of the IAM (USA), the International Association of Movers.
